Santacruz police arrested a 22-year-old salesman on Friday for allegedly raping his 21-year-old colleague at a garment store on Juhu Tara Highway.
In response to police, the accused, Vikas Verma, pulled down the shutter of the store saying that civic officers would harass them in the event that they hold the store open, after which sexually assaulted her.
Verma is a resident of Vakola, whereas the survivor lived in Dharavi.
The girl, in her assertion, stated that on August 5 her supervisor had requested her to assist Verma as he was alone, so she went to the store. Nonetheless, round 6.15pm, Verma advised her that BMC officers would examine retailers and in the event that they discover any retailers open, they might penalise and harass them. Verma then switched off CCTV cameras, lights and pulled down the shutter and locked it from inside after which sexually assaulted her, acknowledged the complainant.
Shriram Koregaonkar, senior inspector, Santacruz police station, stated, “She shared her ordeal along with her aunt they usually filed a criticism at Dharavi police station. However for the reason that incident had occurred below Santacruz police’s jurisdiction, the case was transferred.”
“We have now arrested the accused below sections 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (legal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, and are investigating the case,” Koregaonkar stated.
